Here’s what sets the OMG mattress apart from other online mattresses. It starts at the top. Our fabric is luxurious and anything but ordinary. Unlike almost all online mattresses that have 100% polyester stretch knit options, we added spantex and a degree of cotton.
We then channel-quilted our luxurious fabric to a layer of flame retardant, hypoallergenic, non-absorbent, moisture-wicking, water, wrinkle and mildew resistant fibre. Because of cost, it’s pretty uncommon to see a fibre layer in online mattresses. Along with the fibre, we also added a layer of super-soft gel foam. This foam layer adds a major dimension of comfort to the OMG.
Under the super soft foam layer, we get serious about helping you sleep not only comfortable but better. We took memory foam, the world’s #1 pressure relieving foam, and added gel and graphite to make it even better.
Memory foam was invented in 1966 by Charles Yost under contract to NASA, as a cushioning material to relieve stress G-force astronauts were subjected to during spaceship takeoff. Once it’s great qualities were uncovered, it made its way into airline pilot and passenger seats, movie theatre seats, football helmets and shoes. In 1992 Tempur-Pedic® introduced memory foam into mattresses, as a solution to a better night’s sleep. If you’ve shopped for a Tempur-Pedic® mattress, you know they’re anything but cheap. We’ve all experienced tossing and turning as we try to sleep in a hot environment. The benefits of sleeping in a cold room are varied, but all point to a better night’s rest. When a room warms up, it tends to interrupt our sleep. Traditional memory foam tends to sleep hot, and as our bodies like it cool at night, we added both gel and graphite to the OMG.
The gel was originally introduced into memory foam by Serta® in their iComfort® line, to make for a cooler sleep. More recently graphite was introduced as a cooling agent in computers and other products. By adding both gel and graphite components to the OMG Mattress you get double temperature regulation and cooling.
To further add to comfort, under the pressure-relieving OMG specialty memory foam layers, we added a layer of High-Density Bio foam made from soy-based oils. In addition to providing comfort, this foam layer helps us reduce the carbon footprint in the OMG. Our final foam layer consists of 1.8 lb. of High-Density Bio Support foam made from soy-based oils. Anything less in Bed in a Box or one-sided mattresses, and you’re going to compromise durability and mattress life. But we don’t stop there. We then finish the bottom with a no-skid material, so that the OMG doesn’t slide all over whatever foundation you place it on.
It’s important to note that all our foams meet CertiPUR-US® standards for content, emissions, and durability.
